Jens Lehman, the Arsenal Goalkeeper, has the dubious honour of becoming the first player to be sent off in a European Cup / Champions League Final.
He was sent from the pitch for bringing down the Barcelona attacker as he tried to round him to score. The ball was put in the net, but the referee failed to play the advantage, he disallowed the goal and awarded the free kick, from which Barcelona failed to score.
They did however go on to win the game 2-1 and so lift the trophy for the second time in their history.
With Barcelona and Sevilla both winning European trophies this season, it means that the Spain have now won as many European trophies as the English, 28 each. Italy hot on their heels with 27 wins
