So another week has drifted by, a few more jobs crossed off the list, thankfully no more have been added.
A scorcher of a week, the hottest of the year so far, temperatures well up into the top twenties. Spent Monday out in the sunshine working on my Dad's garden, it's looking a lot trimmer than it was before lockdown.
Don't remember what I did on tuesday, although I'm sure it was constructive, and a job was almost certainly crossed off!
Wednesday I decided to rub down the garage door ready for painting, started with a wire brush but then decided that I would get a smoother finish if I 'Mopped' it. I then found that some of the many layers were coming of as one layer, so I got a scraper and started to peel. This of course took me half the morning and all afternoon, but boy does my bare back to the metal garage door look good.
Did a few bits on Thursday, but generally the day drifted by until the evening when we had our now weekly Lasagne, which we get ready for just after 8, so we can clap first, eat later.
Then Friday, well we decided to move all the furniture in the front room and vacuum in all the places that never get done. This of course involved moving the TV cabinet, the stereo unit as well as the chairs and the settee. De-cobwebing and cleaning the skirting board in the those out of the way place that only get cleaned when there a world wide pandemic!
And so we get to Saturday. We spent most of the day sorting through some stuff on line until mid afternoon, when we have a Cream Tea. Every Easter for a number of years, we have gone to Lincolnshire for a long weekend and on the Saturday we generally go to Lincoln, having a Cream Tea in the late afternoon. So this year, as we couldn't go away, we decided to have our usual Cream Tea, but at home. We have had one each Saturday ever since. It is enjoyable and it means that we all sit around the table together and chat, which is cool.
Just remembered what I did on Tuesday! My son needed to do some filming for his University course and he co-opted me into starring in his masterpiece. I was to portray a character in 3 Video Games, FIFA, Forza and Minecraft. This of course entailed me in having to don a full replica kit and show off some impressive footballing skills in the back garden, followed by a quick costume change and pretend to drive the car in the drive (engine running, for effect). This was followed by pretending to use a pick axe on some logs in the middle of the front room, followed by pretending to use the same pick axe on the coffee table, in the same place in the front room (the wife was not too pleased when she saw the footage a few days later).
And all the time League One owners have been trying to decide how to finish the season. Obviously those that think they have a chance of going up want promotion, those in danger of going down don't want relegation and those who are or would be sitting pretty however they work it out, are not fussed, just relieved.
The argument is, why should the teams with a chance of promotion just the chance to play off and win that chance, but the teams with the threat of relegation are not given the same chance of avoiding it. On the one hand they say they can't afford to play without crowds and it might not be safe to do so, but suddenly they can manage and it is seemingly safe, if there's a chance they will get promoted. League Two have said they don't want to play, but they want promotion but no relegation, the Championship are trying to hold out and play, like the Premier League.
All 71 clubs have to vote, and there has to be a majority one way or the other, but quite obviously the majority don't care about relegation as they feel that they are safe. Also if they are not in a position that they would have to play off, again they probably don't care and will probably vote with the majority, and they won't care about relegation.
If they vote for relegation with no chance to save yourself, there will be a few teams that will only go down kicking and screaming. Unfortunately there are some teams that would have no chance of pulling out of the drop zone so they will be resigned to it, and those close by will want to send anyone down bar themselves.
Meanwhile we're getting re-runs of Euro 96. The other day was funny, ITV was showing the highlights of an England World Cup Quarter Final about an hour after the BBC Red Button had shown the whole game! MOTD are tonight putting in order the top ten FA Cup Moments, as chosen by who knows who! They will all feature Premier League clubs, no space for Tranmere coming from 3 goals down at half time to win against top flight Southampton or from 3 goals down at half time to draw with Premier League Watford last season. No, we get the usual Ronnie Radfords goal against Newcastle in 1972 (Oow, not Premier League), Ryan Giggs mazy run through the Arsenal defence, then pulling his shirt off as he runs back up the pitch (notice he didn't get booked for that, even though the rule had come in that season). Can't think what other delights we have to look forward to. Might just watch Netflix!
By the time I write again we'll probably be in League Two again (Forest Green will vote against us staying up, just to spite us, you wait and see).
Still, tomorrow is one year since our last joyful trip to Wembley, winning goal in the 119th minute (doing it the Tranmere way!), Live on YouTube tomorrow evening, it's a good job I know the score... Back to Back Promotions, Sorry, can you say that again! Happy times.
