Dave Whelan broke his leg whilst playing for Blackburn Rovers, an injury that ended his career.
He went into the Sports Retail business, where he made his fortune. Many years later he bought Wigan Athletic, built them a new stadium and supported them all the way to the Premier League. He returned to Wembley in 2013 as the Wigan Chairman, and this time his team won!
