On winning the inaugural Football League Cup in
1961 beating Rotherham United 3-2 on aggregate, Aston Villa became the first
team to have won all three major domestic trophies.
Aston Villa had previously won the
League Championship on 6 occasions and the F.A. Cup 7 times. Subsequently they
have gone on to win the League Cup 4 more times.
