Originally the Anglo-Italian Cup was evolved to reward Swindon Town
for winning the League Cup in 1969 (They could not qualify for Europe
as a Third Division team). It was not the most successful competition
and in 1975 it was abandoned.
In 1993 it was revived to replace the Full Members Cup. This time
around the competition involved teams from the Football League
Division One and Italian Serie B. Again it was a not a great success,
most games, especially in Italy, attracting very small crowds. This
time it lasted 4 seasons, finishing in 1996.
